Prior work conducted by Lehigh University on behalf of Aesculap Implant Systems Inc. investigated the 3D morphology of a state-of-the-art coating (PlasmaporeXP) developed by Aesculap. We are working to develop biomaterials and manufacturing techniques that can precisely vary implant surface properties at the macro-, micro-, and nano-scale level. This will provide the opportunity to significantly improve the performance of existing products and keep Aesculap competitive in the world of bone implants.
